Seventh & Eighth Grade Discipline Policy Procedures:
Behavior Expectations
If students CHOOSE to violate any of these expectations, there will be consequences for their actions. The following is a breakdown of the step-approach of consequences:
1st Offense – Verbal or visual warning
2nd Offense – An Incident Report sent home for a parent signature/ Parent phone conference
Student Incident Reports
Student Incident Reports are issued to students when there is a need to change the student’s behavior. The purpose of the Student Incident Report is to allow for immediate communication between the home and school so that we can work together to resolve the problem. This report is not a part of the student’s permanent record, but is used by the teacher, parent and principal to monitor student behavior. Student Incident Reports require a parent’s signature and indicate the consequences of the student’s action.
3rd Offense – A detention will be assigned – 1 hour after school - 3:30 to 4:30
After School Detention – (3:30 to 4:30 p.m.). Students assigned detentions must complete all detentions assigned to them. Failure to complete detention(s) will result in an additional detention assigned. If detention(s) are not completed, off campus suspension will occur and the original detention must be served.. Students may not sleep, eat, drink, talk, or disturb the other students. Failure to demonstrate appropriate behavior during the time in detention will result in suspension. All students will be given 24 hours notice before they must serve detention. If a student is absent on the day he/she was assigned to serve detention, he/she will be required to serve detention upon return to school. Teachers will notify parents when a student fails to show for assigned detentions. Students assigned to detention shall arrange their own transportation home. Students unable to attend afterschool detention will serve an off campus suspension.
4th Offense – Student will receive an office referral which will result in a possible suspension
These discipline steps are cumulative across different classes and teachers. Repeat offenses will result in progressive discipline. Depending on the seriousness of the offense a student might be issued a detention or suspension without the previous steps at the discretion of the teacher and/or administration. For a complete list of offenses and consequences, please refer to the DVUSD Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook.
